New Membership Dues Model

Why did the membership dues model change?

Because NISOD manages its resources judiciously and keeps costs as low as possible while maintaining a consistently high level of service, membership dues have remained the same for a decade. However, in order to realize the goal of improving teaching and learning at all community and technical colleges, all two-year institutions, large and small, need continued access to NISOD’s resources. In addition, remaining what the American Association of Community Colleges called, “The country’s leading provider of professional development for community college faculty, staff, and administrators.” would be difficult if NISOD is unable to provide equal access to its programs and resources. The current membership dues model dates back to NISOD’s humble beginnings close to 40 years ago. It’s time for NISOD to implement a more equitable model that (1) serves the common good and (2) allows NISOD to add even more high-quality programs and services that benefit all members.

How is the new dues model structured? Will some institutions see an increase, and if so, how large are the increases? Will some institutions see a decrease?

There are four tiers that form a simple new dues table (see below). The tiers are based on student FTE. This approach is straightforward and transparent.

Dues FTE Range
$795 < 1,500
$995 1,500 – 5,000
$1,095 5,001 – 7,500
$1,145  > 7,500

Membership dues will slightly increase for larger member colleges, with those increases being no more than a modest $150 a year. In order to be fairer to small colleges, the membership dues for those members will slightly decrease. Many colleges will see no change in their annual dues.

What is NISOD doing to help mitigate the impact on institutions that have challenges funding increased membership dues?

NISOD member colleges with an FTE greater than 5,000 students that renew prior to June 1, 2017, will lock in the 2016-2017 dues of $995 for one more year!
