Seven Ways NISOD Honors Excellence Awards Recipients

Each year, a new cohort of NISOD Excellence Awards recipients is honored at our annual conference in Austin, Texas. They join the more than 30,000 recipients who have been honored with the Award by their colleges since the NISOD Excellence Awards were established in 1991. The Excellence Awards tradition gives NISOD the distinct privilege of honoring so many of our community colleges’ best educators. While the pomp and circumstance of the Excellence Awards Program is conducted with a refined touch, the overarching statement is that teaching and leading on the front lines of the community college mission rest on the shoulders of these outstanding individuals.

This year, NISOD is more excited than ever to celebrate the 2022 Excellence Award recipients in person at our annual conference! Learn more about our plans to celebrate these special educators.

1. Excellence Awards Medallion
The specially cast, pewter medallions are hung on a burnt-orange ribbon and provided to each recipient. If you can attend the Excellence Awards Celebration, the medallions will be bestowed at this special event! (If not, no worries–we will mail your medallion to your college.)

2. Excellence Awards Booklet
Each Excellence Award recipient’s name, title, and college are listed in the Excellence Awards Booklet. Recipients will receive a copy of this special commemorative publication that can be shared with loved ones who couldn’t attend the event. 

3. An Invitation to the Excellence Awards Dinner and Celebration
Our premiere Excellence Awards celebration will be held at NISOD’s annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence. All 2022 Award recipients in attendance will be recognized during a dinner and celebration. Recipients can reserve a complimentary ticket to the event and may purchase additional guest tickets for their colleagues and family. Prepare yourself for the red carpet treatment as we celebrate the extraordinary work of faculty, administrators, and staff whose service to their students, colleagues, and community deserve our special recognition!

4. Statements and Photos
Recipients are asked to submit a statement that describes what inspires and motivates them in their work; what strategies help drive their success; and/or what words of wisdom they might pass on to others. In addition, recipients can submit a photo of themselves in their work environment. These items are displayed on our website and will be on display around the conference as well. Keep your eyes peeled and you may catch a glimpse of yourself on one of the kiosks at the Excellence Awards Dinner!

5. Excellence Awards Certificates
Each Excellence Award recipient receives a personalized Excellence Awards Certificate suitable for framing.

6. Web Listing of Recipients
A list of Excellence Award recipients is displayed on NISOD’s website to recognize this prestigious group. 

7. Innovation Abstracts
Excellence Award recipients receive a special invitation to author an Innovation Abstracts, NISOD’s flagship teaching and learning publication written by and for community and technical college practitioners.
