NISOD Names 2019 Faculty Conference Scholarship Recipients

Austin, Texas – May 1, 2019 – The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) is honored to announce the Suanne Davis Roueche Faculty Conference Scholarship recipients for the 2019 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, held May 25-28, 2019, in Austin, Texas.

The scholarships recognize the service and accomplishments of Suanne Davis Roueche, who served as NISOD’s director from 1985 to 2000. Under her brilliant leadership, NISOD’s membership went from 50 institutions to 750, and attendance at the annual conference went from 152 participants to approximately 2,000 upon her retirement in 2000. As publications editor, Suanne disseminated Innovation Abstracts to approximately 100,000 weekly readers. After stepping down in 2000 as NISOD’s director, Suanne continued to serve as NISOD’s editor until 2012 and as a senior lecturer in the Department of Educational Administration.

Recognizing the challenges faculty members can face securing the funds necessary to further their professional development, NISOD created the Suanne Davis Roueche Faculty Conference Scholarship Program. This annual program helps faculty members at NISOD member colleges participate in NISOD’s annual conference.

All five scholarship recipients exhibit values that reflect NISOD’s mission of promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges. 2019 Suanne Davis Roueche Faculty Conference Scholarship recipients include:

  • Sharon Cisneros, Malcolm X College (IL)
  • Emmanuel des-Bordes, Blue Ridge Community College (VA)
  • Timothy Gerdmann, Nicolet College (WI)
  • Michelle McNamara, Glen Oaks Community College (MI)
  • Kelley Simpson, Ross Education, LLC (MI)

This year’s scholarship recipients will each receive a complimentary registration to NISOD’s 2019 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, transportation cost reimbursement, complimentary hotel lodging, and complimentary participation in one of the conference’s excursions.

“It’s truly an honor for NISOD to play a role in helping the selected faculty members further their careers,” said Edward J. Leach, NISOD’s executive director. “We are delighted to see the impact attending the conference has on scholarship recipients, who we know will make important contributions to the lives of their students.”

NISOD’s annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence is an opportunity for educators to explore the challenges, issues, and trends affecting community and technical colleges. The conference includes over 300 thought-provoking sessions designed specifically for educators committed to improving student achievement.
