For Immediate Release
MVC and NISOD Partner in Innovation for Teaching Online
Austin, Texas – May 18, 2018 – Mountain View College (MVC) and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) are joining forces to design, develop and promote a nationally recognized professional development program that supports faculty and instructional initiatives. The first collaboration aims to incorporate universal standards into online teaching and learning while providing national recognition for faculty who successfully complete a series of openly accessible courses. Faculty participants will be nominated with the help of administrators, councils, and committees from across respective institutions. The idea is to increase awareness of best practices at higher education institutions across the country and provide external recognition to online faculty at NISOD member institutions.
Two major components of MVC’s commitment are the professional development course in “Best Practices for Teaching Online,” as well as a digital badging system that can be used to indicate mastery of course materials. For the past six months, Mountain View College has worked with a dedicated group of faculty to discuss, review, and develop the Best Practices for Teaching Online.
Another goal is to continuously support and endorse this innovative approach to professional development by taking full advantage of social media platforms. Participants will share their knowledge and personal teaching philosophies via blog interviews, which will contribute to global conversations regarding best practices in online teaching and learning.
The official launch of the courses is set for early 2019. As part of the partnership, NISOD will recognize faculty at member institutions who complete all program requirements. The first cohort of faculty from NISOD member institutions to complete the courses will be awarded a “Certificate in Best Practices for Teaching Online” at NISOD’S 2019 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence.
The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) is a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges. For community and technical colleges that want to make the most of their professional development dollars, NISOD provides budget-friendly, high-quality, and faculty-focused programs and resources. For over 40 years, has aligned a wide array of benefits with the needs of our members, which explains why the American Association of Community Colleges named NISOD, “The country’s leading provider of professional development for community college faculty, staff, and administrators.” For more information about NISOD, visit www.nisod.org.
