Most students do not realize how difficult some of the core classes can be. I believe more tutoring some be offered in courses such as Biology and a review of all online study guides should be presented to the student before class begins so that they can become familiar in navigating through these study materials. A lot of students never complete the core or just make a grade of C and will not make it in the program. It would help the students if more that grades are considered in the process.

I agree that patients want to see a healthcare workforce that is diverse; they want to see practitioners who look like them. Representation definitely matters.
Success; I believe, is also linked to instructors and professors who are evenhanded, diverse, and who have been adequately trained in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Lastly, if we stay student focused in our admissions processes, we will all win!

This was powerful to see how the demographics changed with the change in ranking criteria.
As an academic and career counselor I find it heartbreaking when a student works so hard to reach a goal but doesn’t get selected for a competitive medical program. In the past our college did do interviews and tried to read a person’s interest and knowledge of a profession but it was thought that the results could be biased using a panel to make selections. I am glad that colleges are rethinking how to make selections for these medical program. I would be interested in knowing how our medical department heads and admissions could work towards a more equitable process. Amy Laughter, Academic Counselor, Augusta Technical College
