Engaging and Supporting Underprepared Students

Seminar Description

Participants learn about teaching practices that help students become more self-directed in their learning through clear expectations, guided learning, reflection opportunities, exemplars, and academic support resources. Faculty who implement recommended techniques can earn digital badges in "Engaging Underprepared Students" and "Developing Self-Directed Learners" as credit towards a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by the American Council on Education. This seminar is offered through NISOD’s collaboration with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE).

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Cancellation and refund requests must be received prior to July 30, 2019. A refund of the seminar fee, minus a $100 administrative fee, will be given for cancellations received by July 30, 2019. NISOD also regrets that refunds will not be given after July 30, 2019 or for no-shows. However, we are pleased to credit your registration toward another seminar. In addition, substitutions are gladly accepted. A transfer of your full registration is permitted prior to the seminar by submitting a written request to Annecy Liddell by July 30, 2019. The individual requesting the transfer is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with the transfer.

Consent to Use of Photographic Images

Registration and attendance at, or participation in, NISOD meetings and other activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to the use and distribution of the registrant or attendees’ image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions and audiotapes of such events and activities by NISOD.

About the Faciliator

Laurie Pendleton is the Executive Director of Assessment at the Association for College and University Educators and has over 30 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher, building leader, and professional development specialist. For the last 18 years, she has supported schools throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates in the implementation of school reform efforts. For five years, Laurie has served as a Professional Development Associate for the Leadership and Learning Center, a subsidiary of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Prior to that, she worked with Leeds Global Partners to create and deliver Professional Development for effective teaching practices in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Laurie also held a variety of positions in the Education Department of Edison Learning, a national educational management organization. Laurie received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine at Farmington and holds MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University.
