Innovation Abstracts, NISOD's flagship teaching strategies publication, disseminates practitioner-written descriptions of successful teaching and learning practices and strategies, programs and initiatives each week of the academic year. Issues are available either in hard copy, mailed for dissemination to NISOD-member colleges, or electronic. The electronic issues will be emailed each Thursday of the academic year with a link to the article. The articles are posted on the members-only section of our website; therefore, readers must enter a username and password (given to each college contact) to view the article. Each issue of Innovation Abstracts is available in the fully searchable online archives. Members who do not have a password can complete a password request form.

In “Math Is, Math Was,” Mark Schwartz, Adjunct Instructor, Math, at Southern Maine Community College, describes a successful strategy for encouraging student comments about changes in perspectives and experiences with math over the course of their classroom experiences. A record of comments is important, but the importance of the concern expressed in the “asking” of the questions was the students’ major response.
