Testimonials

Genesee has been a member of NISOD for many years. Over the years faculty have benefitted from attending the annual conference, as well as from their publications. In recent years we have used NISOD awards to recognize our outstanding adjunct faculty. The recipients have expressed deep appreciation for being nominated for the award. Each year we evaluate membership in all organizations and NISOD is always in the top group of organizations that our Academic Vice President strongly supports. Even in these tight economic times, we feel that we receive a great return on our investment in our annual membership.
Stuart Steiner, President, Genesee Community College (NY)

NISOD is an outstanding organization for all faculty, staff and administrators who strongly believe in enhancing the learning environment for two-year college students. The annual NISOD conference provides the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals as well as the entire college community in enhancing student success. NISOD attendees share a motivational experience and develop long-lasting professional networks.
Marshall (Sonny) White, Jr., President, Midlands Technical College (SC)

Membership in NISOD clearly defines a college's commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. I encourage all college leaders in Minnesota to join NISOD and take advantage of its resources to further your investment in your faculty members' professional development. I cannot think of a better networking forum for faculty to learn from the best of their colleagues across the country.
Terrence Leas, President, Riverland Community College (MN)

NISOD is an essential part of our faculty development program at Brazosport College. The resources and the annual conference continue to provide new ideas and new energy for our college.
Millicent Valek, President, Brazosport College (TX)

NISOD is an organization truly dedicated to the community college, particularly, community college teaching. Each year, I bring faculty and staff to the NISOD conference who have been recognized by their peers for their excellence in teaching and serving students. They initially are in awe of the panorama of the thousands who attend, not only from the U.S., but from other countries worldwide. The attendees take great pride in wearing their badge of excellence, the NISOD medallion. As they walk to their hotel, visitors and other attendees stop and congratulate them for their achievements and for their service to our students. The NISOD organization with its many publications and services and the NISOD conference is a long-standing tradition at Southeastern Community College.
Kathy Matlock, President, Southeastern Community College (NC)

NISOD is our nation’s premier provider of professional development for two-year college faculty, staff, and administrators. Panola College values its participation in the Excellence Awards as a way to recognize outstanding faculty. Each year, without exception, Panola College faculty return to campus enthused and energized from their experiences at the NISOD Conference.
Greg Powell, President, Panola College (TX)

NISOD is an essential professional association. We have always participated actively by sending faculty to develop new ways of delivering learning or receive recognition for their expertise and by encouraging administrators to share ideas about ways to improve institutional effectiveness and efficiency. The focus on developing the institution’s professionalism through our staff and faculty has been an important resource at the institutions where I have served.
Mary Spanger, Chancellor, Houston Community College District (TX)

NISOD is THE leader in promoting teaching and learning excellence for technical and community colleges. As our focus becomes tighter on the target of student success, the connections and expertise of NISOD grow even more valuable.
Greg Rutherford, President, York Technical College (SC)

A tremendous resource for sound, effective leadership development; equally important is the network of professional relationships that accrue from participation in NISOD.
Steve Kinslow, President, Austin Community College (TX)

As a young administrator, I was involved with the NISOD conference from its very beginning. I loved making presentations and learning from other faculty and staff. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of watching NISOD grow in numbers, in diversity, and quality of presentations. I love sending faculty to the conference and, when possible, going with them. I know that they will come home fired up about the things they have learned and many will stay in touch with their new colleagues, sharing ideas, materials and even writing grants together. NISOD is the one place that Community College faculty and staff can go and find "Best Practices" in virtually every discipline and find that practice applied specifically to their student population. I strongly encourage my fellow Presidents to attend NISOD and take faculty and staff with them. They will be glad that they did.
Phoebe Helm, Superintendent/President, Hartnell College (CA)
