NISOD Excellence Awards Process

Selection Criteria and Submission Procedures
Selection criteria are left to the discretion of each institution. Only faculty, staff, and administrators at NISOD-member institutions are eligible. All individuals whose names are submitted by December 1 are recognized as NISOD Excellence Awards recipients once we receive verification from the president's office.

Excellence Awards submissions can be made through our password-protected online system. The password has been sent to all NISOD-member presidents and Excellence Awards contacts. If you do not know your password, please contact Sheryl Powell.

After the names are received in the NISOD office, a confirmation letter will be sent to the designated Excellence Awards contact person—within two weeks. If the contact does not receive notification from our office, please follow up to be sure that your submissions have been received. Each recipient will also receive a congratulatory letter.

Awards Booklet
A special awards booklet will list the names, titles, and colleges of all recipients and feature congratulatory ads from NISOD-member colleges. Conference participants will receive the Excellence Awards Booklet during the conference closing ceremony. NISOD-member presidents will be mailed an Excellence Awards Booklet and NISOD interactive DVD in the summer.

Spotlight Showings
We request that all recipients submit a statement about what excites and inspires them to strive for excellence, as well as what sustains and renews their energy. Along with this statement of philosophy, we request a color digital photo of recipients working one-on-one with a student or small group of students. Many of the photos and quotes will be used during "spotlight showings" in the ballroom prior to each general session at the NISOD conference as well as at computer kiosks throughout the Convention Center. Awards Medallions
These specially cast, pewter medallions are hung on burnt-orange grosgrain ribbon and provided to each NISOD Excellence Award recipient at the Excellence Awards Meeting held during the conference. Recipients are encouraged to wear their medallion during the Excellence Award Reception as well as throughout the conference. Medallions and Awards Booklets for those unable to attend will be sent in June.

Awards DVD
A highlight of the conference's closing session is the NISOD Excellence Awards DVD. This DVD is a collage of soundbites featuring selected recipients from the current year's honorees. Professionally produced for a first-showing at the conference, this DVD is then sent to the presidents of all NISOD-member colleges. For guidelines on submitting the DVD, click here.
